Safety Guidelines and Procedures

Goals and Nets

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that since 1979, there have been 26 deaths nationwide associated with moveable soccer goals. They also report that in the U.S., there are over 120 injuries each year involving falling soccer goals. Southwest SC’s most important concern is the safety of the children. Goal and Net Safety is the responsibility of everyone… coaches, assistant coaches, parents, facilities personnel, Club and team administrators, volunteers... Everyone! We all must be aware and help protect our children by following these…

Safety Guidelines and Procedures For Goals and Nets

  • Coaches are responsible to make certain all goals being used for training sessions are properly anchored, using appropriate hardware, and that nets are securely fastened to the goals.
  • The Facility Manager is responsible for the set up, placement and anchoring of goals used for matches, as well as fastening the goal nets. The Facility Manager is also responsible for taking down the goals and nets after matches are completed.
  • Goals and goal hardware must be returned to their original location. Goals must be placed against the fence, with the front or face of the goal toward the parking area. If the goals are not placed along the fence, then two goals must be positioned, face-to-face, and chained together. Goal hardware and hammers are stored in white five gallon buckets, strategically located along the fence lines.
  • Children must be kept a safe distance from all goals being moved - at all times.
  • Players younger than U13 should not move goals. Parents and Club personnel should work together to move goals used by younger players. Older players (U13 and above) may carry goals, but with adult supervision only.
  • No one is ever permitted to climb or hang on goals or nets.
  • The Facility Manager is responsible to remove nets when goals are not in use.

Any goals or nets that appear to be unsafe must be reported to the Facility Manager at once. This includes goals not anchored, missing bolts, etc. as well as cut or torn nets, or nets missing fasteners. Please be a part in keeping our children safe!
