Southwest Soccer Club BU14 Blue beat BU15 Arizona State Champs
At the Dave Shelton Memorial Cup in Escondido during the weekend of August 20-21, the Boys under 14 Blue team from Southwest Soccer Club Elite was the silver-medal Finalist, playing a year up in the under 15 age bracket.
The Blue team saw success early on in pool play Saturday at noon when they shut-out the under 15 Arizona State Champions (2-0), Yuma’s first defeat in over a year. Later, SWSC pounded CV Manchester under 14’s (8-0), playing one man down. On Sunday, SWSC continued their success by beating Ramona under 15’s (3-1), placing the SWSC Blue team first in their bracket with 28 points and a chance to win the Championship. The final match paired up SWSC Blue with Yuma, again, playing 40-minute halves in the blazing Escondido heat. This time the U15’s came prepared to battle with the younger boys and it was hard-fought from the start. SWSC Blue never gave up, having several shots on goal and thwarting many attempts by Yuma, but, the Arizona State Champs with their size and strength prevailed in the end.
