SWSC would like to congratulate the GU13 Elite team, coached by Jenny Lawlor, for their Coast Soccer League success! They have demonstrated the comeback of the year, becoming the League Champs of Silver Elite South, which guarantees them a GOLD spot next season with a record of 8-1-5! The team is anchored by GK and Captain Alanna “Goose” Guzman, with 4 shutouts. Our defense, who only allowed 12 goals, includes Angela “Ang” Brown (captain), Celine “Flash” Cortes, May ”May-May” Wilson, and Courtney “Cookie” Turner. The midfield, who helps set the tone of our games and creates numerous goals, includes Shenalin “Shen” Acoba (captain), Jordan “Jammer” Magnin (captain), Katie “Chip” Martinez, Noelle “Stinger” Sanz, Brittany “Brit” Goulart, Maddie “Mad Dog” Schamun, and Monique “Mo” Cabrera. The team lead the league in goals scored (27), with hard work from every player. The GU13 forwards, Amber “Rocky” Luna, Ashley “Smash” Peterson, Kylee Wilson, and Jessica “Jess” Hansen. There were huge expectations for these girls, coming off a State Cup Championship last season. This season, they played Silver Elite in one of the toughest Silver Elite brackets around. They started off the league 1-1-4. This team was relentless to get what they deserved and played the final half of league with a record of 7-0-1, taking control of the league, staying undefeated the last 10 games. They moved from 6th place all the way to the top. Then they learned that nothing worth GOLD comes easy. While on their winning streak, they tied a brutally physical NHB 2-2 (who lead the league at the time). NHB could not take the heat and after their battle with SWSC, NHB lost and tied a few games which opened the door for our GU13 to take the GOLD. These girls kept their sights high and knew what they had to do – win every game. They finished their Silver Elite season by playing FC Blades: they needed a tie to share a top spot. On Saturday, their home game was moved to San Bernardino due to the rain. They played in the mud, but kept their focus, worked hard and got the result, beating the Blades 3-0!!! The win put SWSC on top all by themselves!!! We are so proud of you girls! Best of luck in National Cup!
