Local Heroes Part 3
Third in a series, we take a look at some of the local heroes of SWSC from the boy’s teams. Swanney and Ziega over the last few seasons have dedicated their playing days with SWSC. Two players who you would not normally hear about have come 500 miles. They are now well established names in the club for their improvement and performances 1. What was it like when you first put a foot on a field at Southwest?

Swanney: I was a little nervous at the beginning because I didn't know anyone. Try outs are pretty intimidating.

Ziega: It felt good but I was a little nervous 2. With a few seasons under your belt, how do you feel about yourself now and have you improved? Swanney: Yes I have improved. I know how to play the position better than last season. I'm not as afraid to come out on the break aways. Ziega: I feel good to know that i played with a team that made Premier and yes I have improved over the season. Playing against the English teams has improved my toughness. 3. What has been your highlight so far at Southwest? Swaney: Going to Danville. Ziega: The day we beat TMSC 5-1. 4. What players have you enjoyed training with and If you could step into someones boots for a day who would it be.. Swanney: I enjoy training with my team but the goalkeepers are special. It would be fun to trade boots with any of the older goalkeepers. Turner or Griff Ziega: I enjoyed playing with Luke & Chris Hobbs when i went to England and Craig showed me lots of good things 5. What is it like to work with the older players and are you more experienced because of this? Swanney: It makes it a lot of fun. I helps us to become better players. Shots don't come as hard from my teammates as they do from the 12s and 14s. Ziega: It is hard but fun I trained with my older brothers team for a couple of season when I've had time. 6.Your Best performance

Swanney: My last 4 shut outs. Ziega: when I played chappelldino against TMSC 7. What are your long term goals as a soccer player? Swanney: I want to keep playing and improving. We'll see what happens.... Ziega: Not to put on Weight :) and go as far as I can. 8. Whats been your most difficult challenge in club soccer? Swanney: Last season was very tough. We lost all our games but 2. I didn't think the season would ever end. I almost didn't come back to try outs. Ziega: Stepping up when We have had injuries to key players in the teams. 9. What advise can you give to players who come into club soccer a little nervous? Swanney: Everyone is really nice. Hang in there, don't give up and play hard. Even when I don't want to go to practise I always have a good time once I am there. Ziega: Don't be nervous and just try your hardest and it will all work out in the long run i promise you will be loved by all.
