Boys Teams Local Heroes
First in a series, We take a look at some of the local heroes of SWSC from the Boys teams. Thorpey and Turner over the last few years have dedicated their playing days with SWSC. The boy's work ethic which has really endeared them to the players in the club sets the stall for other players to achieve and follow in the the foot steps of this weeks local heroes. 1. What do you like best about SWSC?

Thorpey: My favourite thing about this club would have to be how it helps kids develop from the time that they are young, to the time that they are young adults, to be great soccer players and human beings. I also love how exciting this club is. The coaches make everything a good time, while still meaningful.

Turner: The way the players are developed on and off the field. Training sessions are always different and because of the long seasons its keeps us fresh and on our toes. 2. What was your best game last season? Thorpey: I would say my best game last season was the game against AC Alliance. We won that game 4-1, and I had a hat-trick and the assist! 3. What was your best game this season.? Thorpey: My best game this season was my game against the Nomads. We tied that game 1-1 but we still played pretty well as a unit. Turner: Final in the Notts Forest Tournament we went 2-0 down in the first 5 minutes and won the game in extra-time 3-2. 4. Your best goal? Thorepy: My best goal was in England against a team in the first game of the tournament. I shot the ball from the top of the 18 and it hit the post in the top right corner and went in. We won that game 2-0. Turner: I'm a goalkeeper. 5. Your worst performance? Thorpey: It’s hard to say really. I have had many bad games but I think my worst one might have been against PQ Premier in the Premier Qualifying Tournament. We still snuck away from the game with a 3-3 draw. Turner: When we played Barcelona. In National Cup the last game of the season at u12 We lost 5-0 6.The teams record last season was pretty good. What did you learn from last season and has the level of the team improved since 12 months ago?

Thorpey: From last season the team has improved a lot, but I am glad I went through a year with that team because that team taught me how to just enjoy the game. They made me see it like this; why would you put out so much time and effort into something you don’t enjoy? They made me realise that I should just cherish the time that I have to play the game.

Turner: Last season I felt we could have done much better without the kick ball and yes the team has improved a lot with passing and moving off the ball and working as a team 7. Who is the best player you have played with & and what older player from the club would you like to play like? Thorpey:The best player I think I have ever played with would be John Baross. He doesn’t play in the club, he has coached, but he is the best player I think I have ever played with. From his skill to his quickness, I think he is an all-around great player. I would like to play like he does. Turner: Robby Gogatz who goes to Murrieta Valley High School I have trained with him several times and Muddy the GK from England. 8. What is the best thing to happen in your short career so far? Thorpey: The best thing to happen to me in my short career would be that I made the Boys 93 Region 4 team. From here I go to the Inter-regional tournament in Orlando , Florida to try and get myself into the U.S. National Pool. Then possibly even on to the U.S. team. Turner: Probably starting from Cal South and getting to go to the National pool and playing against teams in England. The experience is something I will never forget. 9. What advice can you give to the younger players in the club? Thorpey: My advice to the younger players is to stay calm and relaxed on the field. Don’t stress about things. Try to keep everything positive. And work hard at developing your skills Turner: Don’t give up. Go for everything if they score, play harder than usual.
