SWSC Continues the Spirit of Giving Back!

SWSC’s surplus gear has found a new very appreciative home south of the border. Colina de Luz, an orphanage just outside of Tijuana, has had a need for uniforms for their soccer teams. Through SWSC players, Coach Pete Gregory learned of the orphanage’s teams and knew the club could help them out with uniforms and equipment.

According to the orphanage’s coach, Peter McCoskrie:

The Boys U16 team plays in a local league consisting of six teams. The season is split into two halves – one half before Christmas and one half after Christmas (similar to the Mexican Professional League). The boys have just finished in first place on points in this half of the season and will enter the playoffs to go to the final.

The girls’ team ages 13 – 17 has only recently started playing. For years, the Colina orphanage has looked for a league for the girls but there hasn’t been anything available to them. They’ve now managed to enter into a league in Rosarito. They have played about 8 games so far and have lost only one.

The coach notes that several other teams have been blessed from all the uniforms and equipment that SWSC has provided. Nearly half of the U12 teams in the orphanage’s league are sporting SWSC uniforms!!!

For almost 20 years, Colina has become a ministry of faith and a “Home” for hundreds of children. It continually houses an average of 60-80 boys and girls ranging in age from infants to 23 year old students. The staff, which number 18 or more, work together to see the highest possible quality of care is maintained. Colina de Luz is considered by the Mexican government to be one of the finest Homes of its kind. Colina was privileged in 1999 to win one of two Golden Angel Awards – the other was awarded to Shriners Hospital in Los Angeles.
