
Oh What a Night!
Players and their parents interested in playing soccer in college were treated to the 4th Annual College Symposium - Wednesday, October 25, at the Temeku Hills Golf and Country Club. Hosted by Southwest Soccer Club, this annual event brings college coaches from Division 1 and Division 2/3 colleges, and NAIA, to Temecula Valley to speak to U14 – U18 players and their parents regarding college soccer and the student athlete.
This year’s event, moderated by Greg Michaels, SWSC President featured Jillian Ellis, Head Coach Women’s Soccer UCLA and Paul Caligiuri, Men’s Head Coach at Cal Poly Pomona and Sean Bowers, Head Coach at Cal Baptist University. Topics covered included academics, finding the right college for you, parent involvement and recruiting. The evening was filled with informative information and a lively question and answer session. “This is a great opportunity for local player to explore their college options”, says SWSC Coach and Boys Program Director, Moulay “Rachid” Elbekraoui. SWSC Girls Program Director and Coach Jenny Lawlor added, “It is also great that not only SWSC players participated this year event but other club and high school players not playing at Southwest came out.”
SWSC is strongly committed to aggressively promote players who want to play soccer in college. In the clubs six year existence they have promoted 25 players who went on the play in college.
