The GU12, U13, U14 and U15 teams traveled to Aurora, Colorado to compete in the prestigious Colorado Rush Kick-Off Classic, August 10-13. The teams competed against some of the top teams in the state of Colorado and made California proud. The GU12 advanced to the semi-finals with three impressive wins including a corner kick that resulted in the winning goal in the third game with 30 seconds left in the game. The team, coached by Jenny Lawlor, lost in the semi-finals to Colorado Rush Swoosh team in an exciting double over-time golden goal match. The GU13, GU14, and GU15 teams all advanced to the Finals with tough, physical matches. The GU13, coached by Greg Michaels, lost in the Finals in double overtime, golden goal, match which ended in penalty kicks. Both GU14 and GU15 teams, coached by Jason Leonard also lost in the Finals in double overtime which also ended in penalty kicks. While in Colorado players, coaches and parents participated in a variety of activities from white water rafting, Colorado Rockies vs Chicago Cubs game, dinner out, shopping, movie night and attending a MLS game featuring the Colorado Rapids vs LA Galaxy. The girls were given special field passes and were able to go on the field and greet the players before the game. The trip, which was the first airplane trip for many of the girls, gave parents, coaches and players a chance to bond while enjoying an awesome adventure that I am sure will never be forgotten.
