SWSC Girls Go to College

One of the ways that SWSC measures its success as a club is by how many players we can get help get into college. The latest endeavor to achieve our goal was the SC Premier College Tour attended by players from the SWSC GU18 and GU15 teams. Twenty players traveled across Southern California for 7 days and 6 nights (June 17th – 23rd ) to visit and train at some of the finest Universities in the nation.

What is the College Tour all about?
It’s 10 campus visits - 4 training sessions - 4 scheduled soccer games. It’s the like having the college soccer experience similar to a college team on the road, the chance to get a feel for the campus and the opportunity to "unofficially" meet those college coaches while playing in front of them – ALL IN ONE TRIP.

Lead by tour director Greg Morales and chaperone Jenny Lawlor, SWSC Girls Program Director, SWSC player’s toured San Diego State University, University of San Diego, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, Cal State Northridge, UC Santa Barbara and Westmont. The 7 day tour itinerary included morning breakfast, university tour, Q & A with staff, training session at university then in the afternoon lunch, another university tour, Q & A with staff, and scrimmage.

The lucky SWSC player who attended are: GU18 Dana Menard, Shannon Seibert, Candis Novis, Melissa Bowlin, Aaren Casimiro, Alyssa Harris, GU15 players Monique Escalera, Gaby Arganda, Rachel Alverez, Jordan Pope, Tatiana Valentin.

The tour was a huge hit with the players. Here is what GU18 player Dana Menard had to say:

Hi Jenny,

I just wanted to say that the College tour experience was so amazingly helpful for me. Thank you for giving us this opportunity. This is my second season with SWSC and I wished I would have learned about these tours earlier in my playing career so that I could have more time to choose a college. But despite that, I believe that I have a better understanding on making this decision than most people. Thank you so much for that.

This whole process has definitely made it easier to make a decision on where to go to college and Greg Morales input helped a bunch.
